The NYC Wing Chun Work Group is a private training club that practices the Wong Shun Leung and Gary Lam Ving Tsun (WSLGLVT) fighting methods. We are also the New York training branch of Applied Body Mechanics Ving Tsun (www.abmvt.com). What is Wing Chun/Ving Tsun?
Wing Chun (or Ving Tsun) is a martial arts system developed a few hundred years
in ancient China. It is known to be aggressive, efficient and direct.
Wing Chun was made famous because of movie star Bruce Lee.
Wong Shun Leung (WSL)
Wong Shun Leung (黃淳樑) (1935-1997) was considered by many to be
the most famous fighter of the Wing Chun clan in the early 1950's.
He was also Bruce Lee's principal Wing Chun instructor in Hong Kong.
Wong Shun Leung's Wing Chun Method was developed though the numerous
challenge matches with fighters of other styles in the 50's and 60's.
Today, the WSL lineage is considered one of the best lineages
in the Yip Man system to train under.
The Wong Shun Leung Method is best described
by David Peterson, a teacher of the WSL Method and a student of Wong Shun Leung.
Background
The NYC Wing Chun workgroup website was created by George Lee
to find partners interested in learning and
training Wing Chun Kung Fu.
We specifically practice the ideas and concepts behind the
WSL Wing Chun Method and the Gary Lam Wing Chun System.
The group is not a commercial martial arts school
but an informal study group.
George Lee is trained by Ernie Barrios in the
Wong Shun Leung Method. George Lee is also certified
in the Crossing Hands (Level One) and a Level Two
practitioner of Gary Lam Wing Chun system. Ernie Barrios is the head instructor of the
WSLGLVT group (Applied Body Mechanics Ving Tsun) in Los Angeles, a fully
certified coach in the Gary Lam Wing Chun System and certified
by David Peterson
in the Wong Shun Leung Method.
George Lee travels regularly to the West coast to train with Ernie Barrios and
his group
